Updated contact details for NZ Interhash 2024

Please note that effective immediately, NZ Interhash 2024 has a new website https://www.interhash2024.kiwi/ and Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/297744196097460

This is due to issues with access permissions and admin rights for the original website and Facebook page (the previous Chair, who resigned in May 2023, signed an agreement stating that these controls would be passed to the new committee, and was suitably compensated for time and expenses incurred. Unfortunately, this transition has not gone smoothly, hence the need for new channels that the new committee can control).

The Interhash Council continues to support the new NZ IH2024 committee, which is making fantastic progress in all the key areas. So, if you want to register or keep up with what is happening make sure you change your links to the new ones!

Background to the current situation:

Why was there a change to the NZ Interhash 2024 committee?

The Interhash Council provide assistance to all Interhash bidders to ensure that all Interhash events are successful. Whilst the Council originally supported the NZ Interhash 2024 Chair and committee, it became apparent that the Chair was not providing effective leadership. There was also a lack of transparency in legal and financial matters. The Council was in continual contact with the Chair from November 2022, trying to persuade him to allow his committee members authority to carry out their roles. However, in May 2023 the NZ GMs announced a vote of no confidence in the Chair, and he resigned.

Who are the members of the new NZ IH 2024 committee?

The Chair of NZ IH 2024 Committee is now FeFiFoFum, who has also recently been elected as the current NZ GM. In the last 10 weeks, he and his team have turned the event around and there is now a fully active and capable committee. The new committee has gained support amongst the NZ hashing community and in the wider world of hashing, as well as the full support of the Interhash Council. The new committee has many elements now organised or underway including the Incorporated Society, financial transparency, venue, beverages, runs, buses and merchandise.

We are confident that NZ Interhash 2024 will be successful and provide great value for money.

Why was NZ chosen for Interhash 2024?

Prior to the cancellation of T&T Interhash in 2020/22, the Interhash Council reviewed three potential bidders for IH2024; Goa, New Zealand and Turkey. The Council found that the Goa and New Zealand bids were well thought out and presented. The Turkey bid was found to be incomplete, so the bidder was advised to consider bidding for a future date. When T&T was forced to cancel for a second time in 2022, the Goa bid team offered to hold Interhash in November 2022. This would prevent the undesirable situation of a six-year hiatus without an Interhash. The Interhash Council accepted Goa’s offer, which left New Zealand as the only certified bidder for Interhash in 2024

2023-June-23

The Interhash Council has been in contact with the GM of the Interhash 2024 committee and have been supplied with evidence that the organisation of the event is back on track. There is a solid committee in place, who are fully supported by the majority of the New Zealand hashing community. We have been supplied with minutes of their latest committee meeting and have been invited to attend future meetings, if we wish to. The IC have seen a confirmation email from the venue, a quotation email from the proposed caterers and images of samples of proposed goodie bag items. Various bus companies have been contacted and quotations from breweries are expected shortly. An Incorporated Society has been set up and the financial affairs of the event are in very safe hands. The Interhash Council look forward to what promises to be a very successful event. The Kiwis have sent us the following message ‘come to middle earth to celebrate what will be a spectacular Interhash. The Kiwis look forward to welcoming you all.’

2023–May-15

The following changes have been made to the leadership of the IH24 organising committee.

a. Following a IH24 committee meeting, BlueVain has resigned as Chairman.

b. BlueVain has also relinquished his committee positions as “Food Manager” and “Goodie Bag Manager” and will not be active on committee henceforth.

These changes have been made to address the matters raised within the notice of motion proposed at the NZ Nash Hash 2023 GM’s meeting and then published as a “Letter of No Confidence”, issued to the World Interhash Council and immediately viewed by many hashers across the world.

The following should be also recorded as a response to matters noted in the No Confidence post regarding financial transparency and accountability.

a) All funds are now secured with “2 out of 3” signatory requirement, two of the three being current IH24 committee members.

b) Reconciliation of all accounts (including Red Dress and Exclusive Red Dress events, and managed accommodation bookings) is well underway.

c) The current IH24 committee is progressing the establishment of an Incorporated Society.

Going forward:

• Subject to NZGM acceptance and endorsement of the above points 1 and 2 it is the IH24 “current” committee intention to issue (through the NZGM) a welcome to any hasher in NZ who is now prepared to rejoin the organising committee, or to join as a “new face”.

• It remains IH24 committee firm commitment to managing and delivering a successful World Interhash event in Queenstown in March 2024.

THE INTERHASH COUNCIL FULLY SUPPORTS THE NZ GMS IN THEIR VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE. WE HAVE BEEN IN CONTINUAL CONTACT WITH BLUEVAIN SINCE NOVEMBER, TRYING TO PERSUADE HIM TO ALLOW HIS COMMITTEE MEMBERS AUTHORITY TO CARRY OUT THEIR ROLES. WE OBVIOUSLY WANT THIS INTERHASH TO BE A SUCCESS AND WE STILL STAND READY TO PROVIDE SUPPORT TO THE REST OF THE INTERHASH NZ COMMITTEE, IF THEY GAIN CONTROL AND ARE WILLING TO INVOLVE THE INTERHASH COUNCIL

QUARTERLY STATUS UPDATE ON INTERHASH 2024 BY INTERHASH COUNCIL: APRIL 2023

InterHash2024 Status Report 2023 April
To the Hashing World:

Many hashers will be aware of the issues that have arisen relating to the management of the InterAmericas (see https://iah2022.gotothehash.net ), and will appreciate the importance of regular updates and full disclosure of financial and contractual matters. The Interhash Council’s (IC) aim is to ensure this happens, and to improve the quality, efficiency and success of Interhash for all participants.

You may know that the IC now reviews and certifies all Interhash bidder proposals and provides guidance to the successful Interhash Committee on event planning and implementation. The IC is purely an advisory body, takes no direct control of the event nor has any direct responsibilities for it. The IC has a duty to the rest of the hashing world to follow up the statements made in the bid documents and to update hashers with the current status and changes made. So the IC asks the current Interhash Committees to complete an update of their original bid proforma on a 3-monthly basis. The IC requires that these responses include evidence of progress, in the form of verifiable copies of contracts (to date); banking details and signatories; current Committee memberships and their contact details. The IC will continue to require this update to be carried out every 3 months until the event (i.e. for the NZ 2024 Interhash this will be on 15th June 2023, 15th September 2023, 15th December 2023). We will be reporting on these updates to the hashing world on a quarterly basis, to ensure full disclosure.

The IC requested an update on the NZ 2024 bid proforma in March 2023 from the Chair of NZ 2024 Interhash and there are certain areas of progress to date which cause us some concerns. For example, we keep reinforcing the need for effective leadership and a collaborative committee, with all the key positions filled. Plus, we were told that a legal entity would be set up on 1st April 2023, however this has still not happened. Since November 2022 the IC has been asking that there be a bank account with a mandate requiring two signatures on every transaction and more than one person with access to the account – this has still not been completed, despite repeated attempts from others to help progress this. We have continued to offer our help and advice to the Chair, regarding these and other concerns we have, but as there is still no transparency on these matters we have a duty of care to make the hashing community aware of these issues.

Four members of the IC were present at the NZ Nash Hash, held 14-16 April 2023. At the GM’s meeting the decision was made by the GMs of NZ to give the Chair of NZ Interhash 2024 one week to provide them with an updated report including confirmation of committee structure, additional signatories on the bank account and progress with the entity formation. The Interhash Council is awaiting an update regarding this, and will provide an update when we know more.
